Greetings Region 1,

Hope you all are enjoying the summer. Make sure if there is someone you would like to see get the Regional Educational award that you nominate that individual. It can be for anyone that has gone above and beyond in the field of lecturing and or providing education for the Anesthesia Technicians. I want to extend my thanks to Quentin Letson for taking on the task of setting the Region 1 Meeting in Atlantic City, NJ up. It was a huge success and I certainly hope that if you went that your expectations were met. The other meeting that was held in Nashua, NH was a success as well. I also want to thank Kathy Duprey for setting this meeting up. It was a huge help, if you think that you would like to help with meetings for next year, now would be the time to start thinking about it and let me know. Hope you all have a wonderful and safe summer.

Also do not forget to start making your travel arrangements for the Annual Meeting in San Diego, California. We do not want you to miss out on the Annual Meeting. For more details, go to the main page on our website and look into the hotel, and area recreation. Hope to see you there.

Hello Region 2

Summer has finally arrived, even in Northeast Ohio hard to believe! Hope everyone is having an enjoyable summer so far, it’s been very busy for me, how many days before school starts. This will be the last published hard copy of the sensor, we will be joining the information age and our newsletter will be available online starting in this fall.

This year is important for our region; it is time to elect a new Region 2 director! Nominations will be accepted for the position, so if you know of any qualified candidates please let us know. As you know I am just the interim director, and it has been my pleasure to serve our organization.

Do not forget that I will be hosting a meeting July 24th at Akron Children's Hospital. Our national conference is in San Diego in October. These meetings are for your benefit to attend, for CEU’s and opportunities to meet other techs to share ideas and help our organization move forward. Any comments or suggestion are greatly appreciated, have a safe summer!

Thanks
Kimberly Stack

Well it is summer in the south. I hope everyone is doing well and getting ready for the hot weather.

We have a few things to catch up on. The meeting in Nashville turned out very well, with a very good turn out and great speakers. I thank Sue for putting this together and I hope she can do it again next year for the techs in the Tenn, Alabama, Georgia area, or for anyone that is close to this area. I know the techs really want her too.

There is a meeting planned for August 28th in Hickory, NC. This will be an opportunity for 8 CE’s. We have not mentioned this meeting because we wanted everything in place and to make sure nothing was going to stop it from happening. We have had some problems in the past with everything going smooth and then something happens and we have to cancel. We did not want that to happen again.

The accommodations are very reasonable, and I know the meeting will be great, because Darlene Bolick and the folks in her area are getting this meeting together. I remember the last meeting in Hickory was a great success with very interesting speakers and subjects, I’m sure this one will be just as good if not better. Start making plans for August 28th we are just waiting on the approval from the education committee and then it should be on the web site for registration and all the information about where it is, the hotel, etc, will be on the registration form as usual.

Don’t forget to nominate your choice for the board. President elect, secretary, and treasure are elected every year.

We also need to have an educational award winner for region 3. I am sure there are quiet a few people in this region that have supported and helped with the education of techs that deserve this award.

Remember we (all) are the ASATT and it is up to all of us to have a successful society that helps to make changes and improve education and hopefully licenser in the future. Get involved, don’t just read the sensor, or complain about what asatt hasn’t done. Instead look at what asatt has done and what it can continue to do with the help of all its members.

I know its only 4 months away for the annual meeting in San Diego; hope we have some folks planning to go. Be sure you let me know if there is anything that I need to bring up to the board at the meeting. I want to be a good voice for our region so let me know your needs, wants, and ideas to share with the board.

Hello Region 4 members!

I hope those of you who had the opportunity to attend our Region 4 meeting in April in La Crosse, WI went home with a lot of new information from the lectures and information from the Vendors from many companies on some of the newest equipment in anesthesia. I would like to again thank Amy Lorenz all the wonderful people from Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center for hosting this great meeting, the vendors for coming and showing us what’s new in anesthesia, and the excellent speakers for sharing their knowledge in anesthesia with us.

I am in the process of getting next year’s meeting lined up, and I would love to hear from you with suggestions for topics for our meeting in the spring. It is your meeting, so please send me an email stating what you would like to hear covered in some of the lectures.

One last reminder-please think about nominating someone deserving of the Region 4 Education Award to be presented in San Diego this October at the Annual Meeting. Nomination forms are available on the website or by following this link-RegionEduAw07.pdf And for those of you who have not made arrangements yet for the Annual Meeting, there is still time. I just wanted to thank everyone who attended the RMSATT Spring Fling on Saturday, April 24th. It truly was a great educational seminar. The vendors have also asked me thank you for your great response to them. The door prize drawing results: Cyndie Sharkey will be representing RMSATT at the ASATT National Conference in October, all expenses paid, Bob Reno is now able to listen to his favorite Texas tunes on his new I-Pod Nano, Next year, Willie Smith will be coming to the RMSATT Spring Fling for FREE. Exciting news: RMSATT Member, Maretta Grandona, has made a beautiful quilt for RMSATT to use as a fundraiser. We are selling tickets for a chance to win this quilt. I will try to get a picture of the quilt to send to everyone.  The cost for the tickets will be $2.00 per ticket or 3 tickets for $5.00. The next RMSATT meeting will be on Thursday, September 9th at 6:00pm. I have not scheduled the speaker as of yet, so I don’t have the educational topic. If there is anything in particular that you need education on, please e-mail me with suggestions. Thanks for your support in allowing us to grow and to continue to provide top quality education to Anesthesia Techs! Sincerely,Charlene Koch RMSATT President

The Annual Conference 2010 - October 14-16, 2010 San Diego, California Marriot Mission Valley.

I would like to ask all the region 5 members to start planning to attend ASATT annual Educational Conference meeting in San Diego, California. Start looking at airfares, and consider your budget and take advantage of the early bird special on the registration fee to the annual meeting expect San Diego to be pricey and the savings will come if you register early. This meeting will offer up to 13CE’s, so keep this in mind.

Region 6 May Update

As you know the meeting in Utah is fast approaching. Please make plans to attend! I do have a couple of changes. Drager anesthesia was unable to send their speaker, so GE has been gracious enough to find a speaker for us! Thanks GE Anesthesia Division!
Also, the University Hotel has extended the room pricing until May 24th, but will still honor the pricing after that, they just won’t hold the room block.

At this point it looks like we will be able to offer up to 8 CE's. It will be June 5th in Salt Lake City, Utah. This gives everyone a second chance to visit these beautiful areas that were unable to attend last year.

Location: Officer’s Club, University Guest house & Conference Center
The phone number is: 1-888-416-4075
Group Name listed as: ASATT Region 6

Hope to see you there!

I would also like the Region 6 members to give serious thought to being the Regional Director. I will be stepping down, in order to assume the role of President. If you would like to know more about it, please let me know, it is a wonderful experience, those dedicated to the profession would get a lot out of it and it helps to keep change and a new perspective, going. If you have someone in mind to nominate, also let me know.

Vicki

Howzit Region 7!!!

As we begin Summer, there are two items to consider: Regional Education Award and the Executive Board Elections (President-elect, Secretary, & Treasurer). The deadline for the Education award is July 30th. I would like to have multiple nominations to select from. As I have said before, look around there must be a worthy candidate, this person maybe your coworker or salesperson. This person will be someone who has helped you and your peers learn about our exciting world of Anesthesia. The second is elections, the Region 7 Director position will be open in 2011. Voting is done online, it will not take too much of your time, and you will have your input as to who you want to guide our great association. There are a number of exciting things going on and we want to continue the momentum that we have. ASATT must persevere and move forward.

The Hawaii meeting is set for Sunday, August 8th at Hilton Prince Kuhio Hotel in beautiful Honolulu, Hawaii (one block from world famous Waikiki Beach). I am still finalizing the agenda and may have an slot open. Those who live in Hawaii please talk to your favorite physicians and or speakers, to see if they would like to share their knowledge? Also, please contact your vendors about attending/sponsoring our meetings. As you all know, without their support we would not be able to have these meetings at reasonable rates. Talk to the sponsors now before they commit their funds to other worthy organizations of efforts.

The Anesthesia Technician program at North Seattle Community College has started. Contact Aaron Nelson if you have any questions @ AFNelson@sccd.ctc.edu.

You still have time to plan to attend the Annual Educational Conference and Business Meeting in San Diego, California. San Diego is a beautiful city with many different things to do and places to see. The downtown San Diego area has gone through many changes since the ASATT meeting was held there. We may be staying on the outskirts of the city at the Marriot Mission Valley; there will be complimentary public transportation passes for all registered participants. The early bird specials are running out the sooner you decide the cheaper the meeting will be. These rates are for ASATT members only.

Check out the internet, the Marriott looks like a great place to stay with good reviews. Make plans to join your peers, make new friends, network, and learn. The annual meeting will not be back on the West Coast until 2013 in San Francisco. Look at airfares, they will still be fairly low and will rise as the meeting gets closer. Further, we have a block of rooms at the hotel and once this block is exhausted you will have to look for another place to stay. Traditionally, you have been able to get up to 13 CE’s at this meeting. The planning committee is working hard to finalize the meeting. If you attend one regional meeting & the annual meeting, you will fulfill all of your requirements to recertify as an Anesthesia Technician in one year. The bonus, you don’t even have to track these ASATT sponsored meetings.

Recertification - Start planning for recertification, it is only a few months away. Check the database, if you do not have enough CE’s, do not wait until December. It will be too late. I would like to see the recertification committee have a problem free recertification period. Desperate people do desperate things. This is when people submit questionable CE’s that results in unfavorable decisions.

Adopt the 10% Rule - set a personal goal to improve everything you're involved in by merely ten percent.
Small improvements add up quickly.

Aloha,
Delbert
