New Director Coming
Hello region 6,
Most of you already know me, due to other obligations Johnny needed to resign his position as Region 6 Director. In the meantime, I will be covering the Region. Right now, we are seeking a motivated person for Interim Region 6 Director. If you have been considering running for office, please feel free to contact me, I would be happy to explain the position and its responsibilities. This is a great opportunity for someone to make a short commitment, to get an idea of what it entails. The rewards are great, how else can someone effectively support change than direct involvement?
As Acting Director, I have begun to plan a meeting in Pasadena, I also have interest in a potential meeting in New Mexico, I will keep you posted as to when and the details. If you would like to have a meeting in your area, please let me know.
Otherwise, there is a lot going on with ASATT, planning the Annual Meeting in Las Vegas, to include lectures that will provide CE’s towards technologist advancement. A Program Directors Workshop and we are looking to have a Leadership Meeting. This meeting is to offer skills and insight to what it takes to run a professional organization and to serve as a leader to others. The course is intended to prepare the future leaders of ASATT. As the profession grows we must nurture our future leaders, several of us are on our way out of these roles. We must therefore provide for our future.
On the professional forefront, we are reaching out to other professional organizations to inform them of our standardized educational processes. Our association liaisons work hard to help represent us, recently Joe Answine submitted an article about us, which was published in Anesthesiology, ASA’s periodical. Our scope of practice will be revised soon, the outline that reflects current practice is also being reviewed. The number of accredited programs will be increasing. We have adopted a Letter of Review, which allows newly formed programs the opportunity of review prior to accreditation. This enables students to qualify for the technologist examination and the opportunity for the program to make changes and improvements to meet the accreditation standards. So far, we have five programs that have either completed or are in the process of this review. Programs are beginning all over the country and the request for certified technologists is increasing. We are well on our way as a recognized profession.
Region 6 is a great region to belong to. We have large numbers of certified technologists and technicians, and work to advance the profession on a consistent basis.
