Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support Certification Requirement for Cer.A.T.T.

Since 2015, holding ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification has been a requirement outlined in the Scope of Practice (SOP) for all Cer.A.T.T. holders. This certification is a fundamental requirement to ensure the safe and effective delivery of anesthesia care.

As part of our ongoing commitment to professional development and adherence to industry standards, ALL Certified Anesthesia Technologists (Cer.A.T.T.) are REQUIRED to have their ACLS/ALS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification obtained through the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross documented on their ASATT profile by December 31, 2024.

If you do not already have a current ACLS Certificate on file, an updated copy must be submitted in PDF, JPEG, or PNG format with your recertification application.
If you do not have your ACLS these are the requirements:

Scenario #1: By December 31st Complete your ACLS course before you recertify, by year-end. The only approved/valid courses are through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross. If you do this by year-end, and complete your recertification by year-end, then there is no impact to your credential.

Scenario #2: By January 31st If you cannot complete your ACLS before year-end, but you can complete by the end of January, then you can complete your recertification by January 31st and pay the $75 late fee.

Scenario #3: After January 31st If you cannot complete your ACLS by December 31st or January 31st, then your credential is expired. You may apply to go into a provisional state for a $200 fee (plus your recertification fee).

  • If this is the path that applies to you, the past two years worth of CEUs that you have earned will not apply towards your provisional recertification. You will be required to earn a total of 40 CEU to recertify (provisional is an additional 10 CEU), and you will have to complete the provisional certification by the end of next year, by December 31, 2025 (one-year, not a two-year period).
  • Additionally, your expiration date does not change if you are in the provisional period, you will have the one year period in a provisional state, and then only one more year (2025) to earn your 30 to recertify on time for 2026. If you apply for your provisional certification, but do not successfully complete the requirements, then your provisional certification will expire on December 31, 2025, and the only option you will have to become certified again would be to go into the refresher program, which incurs additional fee, and you will need to take the National Certification Exam (NCE) again.
  • NOTE: Scenario #3 ONLY applies if you are not able to complete your ACLS by January 31st

ASATT understands that your facility may not require this training, but your certification as a Cer.A.T.T. does. We’re aware that your facility may not reimburse you for this training, but that matter is between you and your employer. While it may seem ASATT is holding strictly to the Certification Handbook and SOP during this year’s recertification cycle, we remind you that this has been a requirement since 2015, even if you were allowed to recertify in the past without your ACLS. Going forward, this is a requirement for every recertification period.
